Membership

Who can join the BSDS?

Membership of the Society is open to physicians, surgeons and nurses with an interest in Dermatological Surgery.  Applications for membership must be approved by the BSDS Executive Committee in one of the following categories of membership:

Ordinary Member

Ordinary membership is offered to Consultant Dermatologists who are on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council and to Associate Specialists in Dermatology. Ordinary Members have full voting rights.

Trainee Member

Trainee membership is offered to any trainee dermatologist who holds a National Training Number. When training is complete and the trainee is included in the Specialist Register of the GMC, he or she will automatically become an Ordinary Member. Trainee Members have full voting rights.

Associate Member

Associate membership is available to interested Medical Practitioners, and to Nurses whose work is substantially devoted to Dermatology.  Applicants for Associate Membership must submit a full Curriculum Vitae and must be proposed by two Ordinary Members from personal knowledge. Associate Members do not have voting rights.

Honorary Member
 
Honorary members may be nominated by the BSDS Executive Committee. Honorary members do not have voting rights.

  • Members discounts on society products including a special subscription rate to the Journal of Dermatological Surgery; a print and online professional journal dedicated to dermatologists.
  • The ability to influence how dermatology and skin surgery is delivered in the UK, both at National and Local level. BSDS Executive Committee members work on your behalf and in conjunction with the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) to shape policy and regulatory practices which impact on the way you work.
  • A bi-annual BSDS Newsletter which includes Society news updates, case studies, developments and more.
    BSDS Annual General Meeting and Annual Scientific meetings which have a strong educational, clinical and regional content and feature highly influential speakers.
  • A subsidized rate for the BSDS Annual Dinner, which provides an opportunity to socialize with dermatological surgeons from across the UK.
  • Educational opportunities including the BSDS Travelling Fellowship and BSDS annual awards.

How to apply

All  applications for BSDS membership will be considered by the BSDS Executive Committee and applicants will be notified of the outcome in writing shortly after the Executive Committee Meeting. Applications should be received by the BSDS Committee Administrator by no later than two weeks before the nearest Executive Committee meeting.

Dates of 2012 Committee meetings are: Thursday 15th March, Wednesday 4th July and Thursday 15th November.

Membership is currently £30.00 per annum for Ordinary, Trainee and Associate members. Please do not enclose any money with your application form as you will be contacted again once your application has been approved.

The next deadline for receipt of membership applications: Wednesday 20th June 2012
